Greg Dulli's deep and meaningful voice, no shitty R&B influences, no, 'more than needed' guitar solos(like in some of their previous albums) seem to have helped this band from Cincinnati a lot. If you are their fan for a long time, it'll be pretty easy for you to judge that how they were one of the most underrated bands of the 90's. And I suppose that this album was a gift to those followers and non-followers as this was their first album after a 16 years break,
At some point, after listening it for 2-3 times, you'll realize that the tracks of the album are pretty fickle. Some song will be as loud as hell, some as polite and melodious as..... (I'm not good at similes, so please complete it yourself). You'll even find some songs with orchestral influences (not trumpets and stuff but yeah! some background scores of violin or harp) that is more than just okay.
My favorites are "Algiers and Lost in the woods" but it will surely differ from human to human.
And most importantly
"KUDOS TO CINCINNATI FOR GIVING RISE TO "
Th Afghan Whigs
